ABOUT OUR SCHOOL - ENROLMENT POLICY
New Entrant Enrolments
On or around your child's 4th birthday, it is a good idea to call
and pre-enrol your child at our school. At this stage we are happy
to meet with parents, answer any questions and show you around our
school.
Pre School Visits
Approximately 10 weeks prior to the child's 5th birthday, you will
receive a letter of welcome from us, stating on which days the
pre-school visits will occur. Our pre-school visiting programme
consists of 4 visits, on 4 consecutive Wednesday afternoons 1.45pm -
2.45pm. Each visit has a specific purpose and allows the child and
teacher to 'get to know each other' in a friendly, supportive
environment. Parents are asked to stay for the duration of each
visit. During one of the 4 visits the Principal will meet with the
visiting parents to participate in an information session about our
school. On another of the pre-school visits the Associate Principal
will spend some time explaining the school’s literacy programmes
Procedure
On the child’s first day at school, parents need to provide the
following information:
• Proof of residency, either a birth certificate or passport
• Clarification of immunization status (immunization is not
compulsory, rather the school just has to keep on record whether
each child has been immunized or not)
Enrolment Policy and Procedure
Under the terms of the Education Act 1989, the Board of Trustees has
implemented an Enrolment Scheme to manage the school roll. In
implementing the scheme, the Board treats all enrolments fairly.
The Board have defined a geographic zone that includes areas that
have traditionally contributed children to the school.
The Board apply the following priorities:
Priority 1
All Primary School aged children residing in the school's defined
zone have automatic right to enrolment.
Priority 2
Where the Principal deems there are spaces available, the following
criteria apply to applicants from outside of the defined zone.
(These criteria are not prioritised):
• Siblings of children already attending the school
• Children of members of the schools staff
• Children who attended this school previously
• Children who have sound or compassionate grounds for not attending
their local school
• Parental choice to enrol children at Red Beach School because of
the learning programmes it may offer to suite individual needs.
Parents who wish to make an out-of-zone application for enrolment,
need to make an appointment with the school Principal or Deputy
Principal.
Enrolments to our Special Needs Unit
As enrolments to our special needs unit are treated a little
differently to those of the main school, parents are welcome to
contact Ms Liz Taute (094268915 Ext 228) to discuss this procedure.
