New Entrant Enrolments

Once your child has turned 4, and you live in our school zone, we encourage you to fill out an online enrolment application. It is very important that the school knows your child is going to attend Red Beach School.

Pre School Visits

Approximately 8 weeks prior to the child's 5th birthday, you will receive a letter of welcome from us, stating on which days the pre-school visits will occur. Our pre-school visiting programme consists of 3 visits, on 3 consecutive Monday afternoons 2.00pm - 2.45pm. Each visit has a specific purpose and allows the child and teacher to 'get to know each other' in a friendly, supportive environment. Parents are asked to stay for the duration of each visit. During one of the 3 visits, the Principal will meet with the visiting parents to participate in an information session about our school. On another of the pre-school visits, the Deputy Principal will spend some time explaining how you can support child in their learning. On the other visit parents will go on a school tour hosted by our school ambassadors.

Enrolment Policy & Procedure

Under the terms of the Education Act 1989, the Board of Trustees has implemented an Enrolment Scheme to manage the school roll. In implementing the scheme, the Board treats all enrolments fairly.

The Board have defined a geographic zone that includes areas that have traditionally contributed children to the school.

The Board apply the following priorities:

Priority 1

All Primary School aged children residing in the school's defined zone have automatic right to enrolment.

Priority 2

Applicants are accepted in this order:

  • First priority must be given to any applicant who is accepted for enrolment in a special programme run by the school.
  • Second priority must be given to any applicant who is the sibling of a current student of the school.
  • Third priority must be given to any student who is the sibling of a former student of the school.
  • Fourth priority must be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school.
  • Fifth priority must be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the board of the school or a child of a member of the board of the school.
  • Sixth priority must be given to all other applicants.

If the board receives fewer applications than there are places available all applicants will be enrolled. Parents who submit an out-of-zone application may be contacted by a Deputy Principal for further information if required.

Enrolments to Special Needs Unit

As enrolments to our special needs unit are treated a little differently to those of the main school, parents are welcome to contact Ms Liz Taute (094268915 Ext 228) to discuss this procedure.

School Zoning

“The Board of Trustees of Red Beach School has ratified an amendment of the schools enrolment scheme as provided under Section 11 of the Education Act 1989. The amended scheme will take effect on 7th February 2008”

School Zone can be viewed through a website

All students who live within the home zone described below shall be eligible to enrol at the school.

Starting at Amorino Park, the zone travels east around the peninsula coastline as far as the walkway into Brian Crescent. It then travels across country in a south-westerly direction to include Brian Crescent and John Road, intersecting Vipond Road at number 154 / 131, and Whangaparaoa Road at number 400 / 409 (included), and continues to the southern coast so as to include Blue Heron Rise.

The zone then follows the Weiti River coast (to include Hadley Park and numbers 1 – 11a Whangaparaoa Road), to a point beyond the stream, and then moves north-west in a direct line to join the Hibiscus Coast Highway where it meets the Whangaparaoa Road left-hand entry lane.
It then travels along the centre of the Hibiscus Coast Highway back to the starting point.

All residential addresses on included sides of boundary roads and all exit roads off included sides of boundary roads are included in the zone unless otherwise stated.

  • The provisions of Section 11F of the Education Act 1989 govern the enrolment of out of zone students.
  • The enrolment scheme and a map of the home zone may also be viewed at the school office.
